ABOUT
Texas Education Advocacy and Reform
Texas TransformED is a Texas education advocacy organization working to make Texas the #1 state for public education in America. We are a 501(c)(4) nonprofit focused on financial accountability and literacy outcomes — two areas where the state has invested heavily and produced results that don’t yet match the investment. We are independent of any party, any candidate, and any school district.
What We Believe
We believe ranking 44th in the nation for the largest line item in the Texas state budget is solvable, not permanent. The dollars are there. The political will is there, in fragments. What is missing is a clear-eyed account of how the system actually works, an honest framework for fixing it, and a coalition broad enough and quiet enough to outlast a single legislative session.
We believe in world-class opportunities for every learner, regardless of zip code or family income. Public education fuels the Texas economy and gives 5.5 million children the chance to reach their full potential.
We believe deep, systemic, and structural change is needed urgently. Incremental reform has been the operating mode for two decades. We need a sweeping overhaul, led by people willing to spend political capital on outcomes rather than on appearances.
And we believe Texas teachers are the most important professionals in the system. Fixing how the state treats them is the precondition for everything else.
What We Do
Among Texas education nonprofits, we are deliberately narrow and different. We do four things, and we try not to do anything else. We are the most optimistic reform team on the field in Texas. We are the only reform team not asking the state for more funding — we work to realign the funding that already exists toward kids and classrooms.
Policy development – We draft legislation, model alternatives, and conduct the research needed to build credible reform proposals. Our policy work focuses on the structural levers — finance formulas, accountability frameworks, literacy standards, and teacher quality.
Public engagement – We translate complex education policy into language that parents, teachers, and business leaders can act on. The problems are largely math problems that can be explained in plain English. They are not inherently red or blue problems.
Coalition building – We bring together unlikely partners — business leaders, teachers, parents, and policymakers — around a shared, data-driven agenda. Our role is not to add another voice; it is to help existing voices align around a plan that can actually pass.
Legislative advocacy – We work with legislators, state agencies, and school districts to move reforms from concept to law. Our staff has drafted education bills, served in legislative offices, and built the working relationships required to navigate a real legislative session.
Why This Organization Exists
Texas does not have a shortage of education organizations. It has dozens of them. Most are doing important work. But almost none of them are positioned to take on the structural problems this plan addresses, for two reasons.
First, most education advocacy organizations in Texas are aligned with one political coalition or one institutional interest. That alignment is useful for some kinds of work. It is fatal for the kind of structural reform that requires building support across coalitions that usually disagree.
Second, education reform in Texas has historically been incremental and reactive. A bad headline produces a hearing. A hearing produces a bill. A bill produces a tweak. Twenty years of tweaks have produced the system we have now. Texas TransformED was founded to do the opposite kind of work — structural and durable — even when it does not produce a press release.
Who Is Behind Texas TransformED
Our team, board, and advisory group include finance and real estate professionals, business owners, former teachers, former legislators, data analysts, PTA life members, and technology founders. We attended Texas public schools, or we have children in Texas public schools, or both. Full bios are on the Team page.
We are funded by individuals and organizations who believe Texas can lead the nation in educational outcomes — not by any single donor, party, or district.
